Odyssey Seating

Spring 2010

One-Off Design

With the prompt “make a beautiful, ergonomic chair” the possiblities were almost endless. So I sought inspiration through feeling, creating a chair based on more found inspiration that I personally loved.

After a slew of sketches, the pack was boiled down to three and models were made. The final choice was developed into a “to-scale” structural model and construction began on the full piece.

The construction process included:

- Vacuum-pressed adhesion

- Milled & Lathed Oak and Aluminum

- Komo Routed Profile

- Base Tinting, Staining & Waterproofing

- Sewn & Upholstered Sunbrella Fabric

- Hand-Tapped Grommets

- Authentic Sailing Knots

The final piece reflected a nautical look & feel that was right at home in the high-end outdoor furniture space. With a wide base, weatherproof sealing and Sunbrella fabric, the Odyssey chair could even live on a yacht. The Odyssey is strong enough for a trip out to sea, and back home again.
